Whispering Winds farm is a holistic medicine group located in Woodstock Connecticut. Nadean Brousseau, owner and therapist has welcomed her community onto her farm during the pandemic to heal together. Through drumming circles, spiritual ceremonies, and meditation in nature, the group has found peace during the pandemic.
Whispering Winds is a place where members come to reconnect with the land. During the winter, more of the river can be seen and the depth of the forest. Nadean often takes walks throughout the land to reconnect with it.
Nadean preforms a sound ritual during medication to open up the chests of the members. The vibrations travel throughout the body, releasing negativity energy.
One of the fist events Nadean had at Whispering Winds was a drum building ceremony. Members of the community each picked the type of skin and natural materials they wanted to build their individual drums. Nadean choose skin that resembled the landscape of Whispering Winds, and she now uses them during all ceremonies on the land.
For Valentine’s Day, Whispering Winds held a Cacao ceremony to re-open their hearts. Cacao is a natural mineral that promotes blood flow to relieve stress. When combined with meditation and sound therapy, members often find themselves feeling lighter and more focused on their own journeys.
In the center of the sound room is large drum made from the first cow that was brought to Whispering Winds when it was originally a cattle farm. The cows skin was saved and later turned into the drum that is used at all larger gathering to thank the land for what it has provided for them.
Nadean office looks out into the forest at Whispering Winds. She often sees eagles, owls, deer, and many other visitors. She believes that they share the land, and both come there with a purpose.
Nadean looks over at her favorite place on the property: “Three Tress.” She has seen these trees grow over the time she has been there. Every day she looks over at the threes and is reminded on why she was drawn to Whispering Winds.
Members of Whispering Winds preform yoga during the ceremony to prepare their body for the journey. For some, they will have physical responses to sound therapy and will feel their body tighten and relax. Yoga is important to their rituals to ensure both mind and body are relived of stress.
The leader of the group welcomes all participants to reflect over the last few months living through the covid-19 pandemic. For many, they have found themselves at new points in their lives. Some have been laid off from their jobs, and others have lost family members. Joining Whispering winds has been a way for many to reconnect with themselves.
One drums rests against the wall after a ceremony. Many members leave feeling lighter and are excited for next months gathering.
Nadean preforms sound therapy over a member during a ceremony. A hand gong is played above their head to allow negative energy to leave the mind. This helps members clear minds and refocus on their lives.
Whisper Winds in located in East Woodstock Connecticut. When Nadean and her partner first set foot on the land, they instantly new this is where their new home would be. Since they bought the land, they have continued to build Whisper Winds by creating a salt bath room, a sound space, and multiple hiking paths.
